{"id":2620,"date":"2017-06-20T17:55:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T17:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/?p=2620"},"modified":"2025-10-21T13:56:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T13:56:59","slug":"waldorf-spreads-its-wings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/index.php\/2017\/06\/20\/waldorf-spreads-its-wings\/","title":{"rendered":"Waldorf spreads its wings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"627\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2624\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5047619047619047;width:386px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere-1.jpg 627w, https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-4-color\">&#8221; more canapes?&#8221;<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-8-color\">F<\/mark>ollowing three successful <em>\u201cWaldorf Experiences Afternoon Tea with Music\u201d<\/em> at Windermere School we set our sights on a bigger and different event which would reach out to more people locally.&nbsp; On a Saturday in February over two hundred older people from across the South Lakes area travelled to the School for the first <em>Waldorf Concert<\/em>.&nbsp; There were some faces we knew but there were also many who were new to Waldorf.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The afternoon began with drinks and canapes.&nbsp; The pupils dressed in their professional black and white outfits finished off with the Waldorf green bar aprons, served our guests with great care and attention making sure that everyone felt welcome and just that little bit spoilt.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"295\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere-concert.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2625\" style=\"width:196px;height:262px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere-concert.png 295w, https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere-concert-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 295px) 100vw, 295px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-4-color\">songs from the shows<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Josie Winston and Nora Hunt from Alexandra Court in Windermere told us that <em>\u201cAll of your students were very welcoming and we could not have been made to feel more special\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As everyone gathered, rekindling old friendships and meeting new people, the atmosphere was buzzing and it was clear they were all ready to take their places &nbsp;and be entertained.&nbsp; The concert programme embraced performances from a range of ensembles from Windermere School, the Community and Dignity in Dementia choirs and Evie Plumb, a former student and singer songwriter.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As our guests moved into the theatre and settled into their seats the lights dimmed and we were treated to a concert that was both varied and of the highest standard. There were songs from the musicals to classical greats with some wonderful instrumental pieces.&nbsp; The journey for our audience began in 1905 Russia with songs from Fiddler on the Roof then travelled through Georgia with a Hoagy Carmichael classic sung beautifully by Evie.&nbsp; Towards the end of the first half the <em>Waldorf Experience<\/em> favourites \u201cWindermere Girls\u2019 Chamber Choir\u201d in their new evening dresses bought especially for the occasion sang amongst other classical pieces a moving rendition of Purcell\u2019s \u201cSound the Trumpet\u201d followed by the Finlandia setting of \u201cBe Still My Soul\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"268\" src=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/evieplumb.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2623\" style=\"width:160px;height:214px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-4-color\">Evie&#8217;s performance was special<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After the interval when the audience was served with little tubs of Lakes ice cream making it really feel like an afternoon at the theatre. Jean with a big smile on her face, told us <em>\u201cThe whole afternoon was lovely and you could not fault anything but I have to say the highlight was the ice cream!\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As the afternoon drew to a close we were all captivated by the beautiful performance from Charlotte of a solo harp piece by Faure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There were so many appreciative and positive comments from our guests but Bill and Edith Daley summed things up by telling us <em>\u201cWe could not have asked for more, it was such a special afternoon where we were really spoilt, we have talked about it time and again and we hope to be invited back\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"558\" height=\"371\" src=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2626\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5023923444976077;width:253px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere4.jpg 558w, https:\/\/parrycharity.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/windermere4-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 558px) 100vw, 558px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-4-color\">They left very happy<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Everyone left with smiles and feeling they had been treated to something special on a cold February Saturday afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Big thank you to all involved for making this first concert an afternoon to remember.<\/strong><strong>We are now planning for the next concert in 2019. &nbsp;We have some great new ideas but just now they will remain under wraps.
